Bio

Chuck Schnoor is now in his eighth year as Central Arizona College’s Athletics Director, obtaining that position in July of 2011, after a 10 year stint as Head Men’s basketball Coach.

Schnoor has been on the scene here at CAC since 1997, where he was an assistant women’s basketball coach for four years under the direction of Hall of Famer Lin Laursen.  During that four years they captured a National Championship and a National Runner-up.  Schnoor was then offered the Head Men’s Job in 2001, and also served the college as sports information director, small business specialist and assistant athletic director. During that time he captured a Region One title and a birth in the National Tournament for only the second time in school’s history, earning him District 1 Coach of the Year Honors.

In 2005, Schnoor became a full-time faculty member in the Sports and Fitness Division, a position he still holds today, along with being the District Academic Chair of Sports and Fitness and the Director of Athletics.  Other duties involve committee work throughout the college as he serves on six different committees, ( faculty senate, athletics, directors council, wall of success, academic leadership and articulation task force).

"I love a talented kid but let's get them all to the next level which is a quality adult in the real world."

Schnoor now leads an 11-sport athletics program that routinely  competes for championships and national rankings in many sports,  as members of the NJCAA Div.1 level and the NIRA in rodeo. In fact most recently, the 2012-13 campaign produced arguably one of the most successful years in athletics at CAC across the board. A National  Championship, two national runner-ups, seven region one titles, eight  conference championships, one district championship and six Head Coaches earning coach of the year honors in their respective sports. At the same time, CAC student-athletes who exhaust their eligibility at Central move on to four year institutions where they continue their academic and athletic pursuits.

Athletic expectations are high at Central Arizona, but so are the academic and character issues.  The core values we desire to exhibit in all of our programs permeate from the Athletic Director, Coaches and staff, as we pursue excellence in intercollegiate athletics, as well as the departments overall mission of enhancing and supporting the intellectual purpose of the College and it’s standards and traditions. Displaying integrity in decisions and actions, building relationships based upon trust, giving respect to those we encounter, and pursuit of purpose through teamwork, are the main core values we expect our staff and student-athlete to exemplify.

Schnoor also holds leadership roles within the conference ( ACCAC), he is currently Chair of both the Cross Country and the Track and Field Committees. He is on the Rules and Ethics Committee, and a couple other sports committee’s on a rotational basis.

Schnoor hails from Minden Nebraska, where he was a multi-sport star.  A two-time All-State selection in basketball, and an All-American.  Schnoor was offered many opportunities to play basketball in college, but stayed home to play baseball at the University of Nebraska.  After two years, he transferred to Univ. of Nebraska – Kearney ( a.k.a.  Kearney State College) where he was a member of both the baseball and basketball team.  Schnoor was then drafted in 1980 by the MLB New York Mets, as a shortstop.

In 1985, Schnoor became the Assistant Head Baseball Coach at the University of North-Alabama and helped lead them to a number two national ranking and a record of 49 – 7, most wins in school history, which still stands today. After a year in Alabama he decided to enter the private sector and returned to Nebraska.  During that next decade, Schnoor still managed to keep his hand in athletics by coaching basketball at a nearby High School.

Family and educational opportunity, prompted another career move for Schnoor, thus the move to Arizona.  As he started teaching and coaching at Coolidge High School in 1994, Schnoor began to feel that something was missing in his life.  It was the desire to get back into collegiate athletics. “ I have always been a college guy in terms of athletics, and the dynamic experiences that it affords oneself”.  He missed that, and found out about this little gem in the desert called Central Arizona College, and it’s wonderful and successful tradition of athletics.  It was a great fit for Schnoor, and he believes two year college’s are unique as it gives people an opportunity to obtain a degree that they might not get by any other means.

Schnoor holds a M.Ed. – Educational Leadership, Northern Arizona University 1999, where he graduated with distinction and is a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi chapter. A Bacherlor of Arts degree in Education – Double Major:  Physical Education/ History with a minor in Business, Kearney State College 1983.
