Take Sunday off boys. You deserve it.

After winning at home Friday morning 5-4 against Northeastern College of Colorado with a line drive single to right by Josh Ethier and a 2.2 inning shutdown performance from Christian Botnick, the Vaq's then hopped in the team limos,

and made the drive to Scottsdale for a 3:10 start against Scottsdale Community College.

"Coach, where's Lopez?"

"Must be stuck in traffic."

Last minute scratch. Starter Michael Lopez got caught up in the Friday afternoon traffic on 101 North so Head Coach Anthony Gilich tossed the pill to Colin Ashworth who had ten whole minutes to loosen up. That's all #20 needed apparently because he finally came out of the baseball game six innings later without giving up a run. 

You can prepare all you want for your best performance, or not! He struck out three, walked only one and gave up four meaningless singles. Michael Lopez came in for the final three and gave up nothing, collecting a save for his own start. (???) Cooper Esmay homered, drove in two, and Jake Brown had three hits as CAC shut out Scottsdale 4-0. Side note: Jaime Estrada was held hitless, but walked twice, of course. 

By 3:30 Saturday the wind was blowing in and the 0-4 Monroe College Tribunes out of New York came to the Big House and they left 0-5. 

"These games in Arizona are our first five games of the season" said Head Coach David Brust. "Look at all this green grass! And a palm tree in center!"

Estrada went 3-4 with a laser triple to deep center with bases crammed, walked again (team leading 19), George Castillo threw five more innings of zero and The Vaqueros swept the weekend with a 9-1 win. That's 18 straight scoreless innings for Castillo who now has a nifty ERA of 1.25, striking out almost 10 per game.

Enrique Cardoza, Kamalu Neal, and Keenan Lum finished up the Tribunes in the final four innings with one-hit ball, striking out 6. MJ Hubbs, Scooter, and Matt Kimbel each had two hits, Josh Ethier and Cody Erickson both scored twice. It was a swarm of ants out there on the base paths.

The Vaqueros have now won 11 in a row and stand at 19-8, 5-7.
