Vaqs can't get bats going-Mesa takes two

The Central Arizona College Vaqueros ran into some pretty good pitching on this Saturday. A quiet night all around for the Vaqueros bats as Division II Champions Mesa CC swept two on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Coolidge.

It was a great start for the day when Cooper Esmay bombed one into left field early to put Central up top.

"That one cleared the hedges" said Central Arizona College athletic director Chuck Schnoor.

#6 Cooper Esmay is in there somewhere after his 2nd inning HR

Dingers are so much fun at The Big House. Central's starter George Castillo had his 22 inning scoreless streak snapped in the fifth inning of game one when a bouncer found it's way through the middle infield scoring two Thunderbirds giving them a 2-1 lead and the final was 3-1 Mesa. Castillo threw the full seven innings striking out six and walking only two to take his first loss of the season and is 5-1 for the year You can't win 'em all. Clayton Kershaw lost more than twice that many games last year.

The Vaq's forged an early 2-0 lead in game two but ran into trouble in the 3rd and 4th innings when the Thunderbirds got to starter Justin Seiwald for three runs in each inning. Eight hits for Central in this game but they couldn't seem to move them around and Mesa hit a few here and a few there for a final of 7-2. Christian Botnick threw another nice scoreless three innings in game two and Aldo hit his first homerun of the year. Josh Ethier and Jaime Estrada both got two hits and Jake Brown doubled for the Vaqueros.

Aldo Koutsoyanopulos with his first HR of the year.

Notes: Castillo (1.66) and Dakody Clemmer (1.85) are fourth and fifth in ERA in the ACCAC.

The Vaqueros have five starters hitting over .300 in MJ Hubbs, Josh Ethier, Jaime Estrada, Jake Brown and Cooper Esmay.

Another DH at Paradise Valley CC Tuesday March 24th.
