BASEBALL SPLITS

The Central Arizona baseball team split a double header at Mesa CC on Tuesday afternoon.

In game one, the offense was kept off balance all day by the Thunderbird starter except for a leadoff homerun in the third inning by Spencer O'Neil, his 4th of the year.  After allowing 3 runs in the first two inning, Central could not recover and fell 3-1.

The Vaquero bats certainly woke up in game two, pounding out 15 hits and run-ruling Mesa 11-1.  Central took the lead early, scoring in the 1st on a two-out RBI single by Manny Ramirez and then put the game away in the 5th with an 8 run explosion.  Four different hitters collected two hits on the day while both Ramirez and freshman Tim Hergert each had three.  Connor Noble picked up the win throwing six shutout innings, striking out seven and issuing only one free pass.  "Connor has had two good starts in a row" according to pitching coach Mike Orchard, "hopefully, he can continue to improve and give us quality innings down the stretch."

Central is now 27-9 overall and 14-6 in ACCAC play.  Next, the Vaqueros will travel to Phoenix College on Saturday for a noon double header.
