Is there such a thing as a good split? 

"There's no such thing as a good split when you have expectations as high as ours" answered Coach Anthony Gilich.

The Vaqueros ran into a pitcher who threw a pretty good game by doing what pitchers who throw good games do, keeping the other team off balance.

"The kid threw well. He changed speeds, threw strikes." 

Arizona Western won game one of the set 3-1. When pitchers have games like that, you don't really know it until after the game is over and it's too late. Eight k's, no walks. Very good numbers against a team that hits .348. Central's Justin Seiwald threw a fine game by going five and striking out three. 

Central hit better in game number two by winning 6-1. And boy did they pitch. Freshman George Castillo dominated this one for the win with seven innings pitched, seven k's, allowed only one earned and scattered five hits. Ben Nelson and Sam Myers threw the 8th and 9th and gave up nothing. The Vaquero bullpen is nothing but impressive so far this year. Josh Ethier had three more hits including a two-bagger and scored twice. Hot hitting continued from Casa Grande High School's Cooper Esmay (two more hits), MJ and Tim Hergert added a couple more hits each. 

The world's happiest player Caleb Henderson batted in two.

"We played fairly clean, we had no errors on the day, we just ran into a heck of a pitcher in game one. We need to continue to work on our offensive production. Every road game in conference is tough so I'm happy we got game two but..." said Gilich on the bus home afterwards.

The Vaqueros move to 1-1, 8-2 on the year in the ACCAC.

Some would consider this a good split, but it depends on who you talk to.
