It's a season opening sweep for Central

Eight more walks.

The wind was blowing into the desert making routine fly balls treacherous, but Central Arizona hit a few more than the Bears and also scored a few more runs giving the Vaqueros a 6-3 win over Phoenix College.

It's a season opening sweep.

In a season opening move for this series, head coach Anthony Gilich gave starter Peyton Remy his four and he threw well striking out four. At this point Gilich isn't testing his pitchers, just getting as many pitchers as possible their innings so everyone is ready for their mid-season run.

Sati Santa Cruz came in second and threw a nice 2 2/3.

For the first four innings, there were at least three sets of guns in the stands marking Remy and Sati. These scouts come, record a couple of speeds, and gone. Tough day. The third pitcher for the day was Ben Skuro who threw 2.1 and canned four, giving up one hit. You can't beat a lefty coming in using Stranglehold from The Nuge as your walk-up, as Skuro did. I mean, just get out of my way.

21 Chris Kobar with a left-center field gapper for two.                                       23 Earl scoops up a bouncer.

Catcher Chris Kobar knocked in three with a double and single, Justice Nakagawa doubled and Jaime Estrada tripled as Central collected seven more hits, but even better, tallied eight more walks. That's 28 walks in three games, more than nine a game.

For the three game week-end set, the Vaqueros stole five bags, hit .323, scored 35 runs, and had an astounding .507 on-base percentage. Keep that up and you might not lose a game. Jayden Eggiman played left field this game with DLT out for a week and Makoa Rosario played center. Eggiman went 2-2 with two walks and stole one, his team-leading third.

Stat of the day: No ya-ya's. Wind blowing out, nobody hit one.

What a weekend.

"He likes winning the first one" said the head coach's wife. Just assuming he likes sweeping the first one too.
