Vaqueros sweep South Mountain with 21 more runs in two games.
On fire.
The top three hitters for the Central Arizona College Vaqueros went 18-26 in a two game sweep of South Mountain Community College. Central scored nine more runs in a 9-5 win Wednesday to give them 17 straight wins to open the 2016 season. Averaging a little over ten runs a game might have something to do with this start. A team ERA of 2.76 and an average of almost 11 punchouts a game might help also.
"The top three guys could all have been 12 for 12 last night" said Head Coach Anthony Gilich. Makoa Rosario went 3-4, Jaime Estrada went 2-3 (two BB), and Caleb Henderson went 4-5.
"Their only outs were laser shots that were caught and their infielder made a brilliant play on a great bunt by Koa to steal a hit from him."
The Vaqueros jumped in front 6-0 after two innings and held on for the win when South Mountain threatened in the late innings, but Ben Skuro came in for the seventh with bases chocked and threw a nice DP pitch, then struck out everyone else he faced, leaving the ninth for Edgar Barclay.
Central Arizona is now 17-0 and 4-0 on the season. Two games for Saturday at home vs a nice hitting Yavapai team. It will be Castillo and Clemmer starting the DH.
