Vaqueros win 15th home game and 22nd of year

VAQUEROS GET 15th HOME WIN

The Central Arizona baseball team survived a mid-week game on Tuesday afternoon, beating the Arizona Christian JV team 6-5.  The win improves the Vaqueros home record to 15-1 in the Big House and 22-2 overall.  Trailing 5-1 entering the bottom of the 4th Central got 4 of their own tying the game on a Jayden Eggimann 2 RBI single up the middle.

The Vaqueros got a stellar performance form its bullpen, using 3 relievers that combined for 5 IP allowing only 2 hits, 0 runs and punching out 7.  While the Fire Storm threatened in both the 7th and 8th innings, Kyle Atkinson served up a double play ball in each to end the innings.

"It was great to see," said Gilich "Kyle has been working very hard and he got some big outs for us today."

Keep in mind, ACU used aluminum bats while Central used wood.

Freshman LHP Edgar Barclay picked up his first collegiate win throwing the 5th and 6th and Ben Skuro earned his 3rd save of the year after striking out the side in order in the 9th.

"It was a good chance for us to get some of our guys some reps, they were prepared and made the most of the opportunity."

#5 Central will next face #20 Seminole State (OK) on Friday at 3:00 pm at Gene Autry field in Mesa.
