Barclay throws shutout. Vaqueros grab split with Dakota Tech

Hey not too bad a day. Dakota Tech out of Minnesota is getting a chance to play in some warm desert air and they got a win down here Wednesday.

Game 1    4-8 (seven innings)

The Central Arizona Vaqueros hit up the Blue Knights with a quick three in the bottom of the first, striking first. And after three innings Central led 3-1 before the bottom fell out. Dakota Tech scrambled around and hit a couple of hard ones scoring six runs in the fourth and took a big win against the nation's #3 ranked NJCAA team with an 8-4 score.

Jaime Estrada doubled and tripled, Pikai Winchester doubled and Ernie de la Trinidad went for trips and stole one in a few batting highlights.

Game 2     10-0 (five innings)

Central strikes quickly again with six runs in the bottom of the first. No homeruns, but Central moves 'em around efficiently with heads up and aggressive base running. It was Edgar Barclay's first start at The Big House and WOW!

Barclay gave up one single and struck out seven in a run-rule five inning game and the lineup scored ten runs for him for the CG shutout, Central's fifth shutout of the year. Steady improvement for Barclay as the year rolls on. With a Central DP and only one walk, Barclay faced only one batter over the minimum.

Mitchell Robinson drove in three runs with timely singles, Bradley Morgan stayed on fire with another hit and two walks driving in two, and ELT alo drove in two and went 1-2 in game two with a 3-5 DH. It's a long road back eh Erns? Lookin' good.

Stat of the day: Jaime Estrada went 4-4 with three more walks, so technically, that's 7-7. Number 7 has a team leading 23 walks. The man can get on base.

The Vaqueros now have a 2 1/2 game lead in the ACCAC over Mesa Community College with an overall 27-4 record, 10-2 in conference. Central has the weekend off but a game Friday afternoon at the Big House awaits versus Williston St out of North Dakota.
