Vaqueros take two from Phoenix College- Clemmer wins 7th on 2-hitter

Central Arizona College is now at 35-5. Win seventh straight.

Phoenix College charges admission to their home baseball games and they probably made a buck or two on Saturday because the conference leading Central Arizona College Vaqueros were in for two. Maybe the Bears could do some damage.

Roger Varela crosses in game 1

Game 1 (7-2 seven innings)

Phoenix College had a tough time getting the ball over the plate early and struggled with some hot shots off the Vaquero bats and after some walks, an error or two, a couple of hits and a sac bunt here and there, Central took what they were given in game one.

Caleb Henderson went three for five with a double and Bradley Morgan hit a triple to the fence in right center as highlites, but other than that, the Vaqueros just moved 'em around efficiently and fairly quietly. Pikai Winchester had no official at-bats but laid down two nice sacrifice bunts and hit a long bases loaded sac fly to explain that. More about Pikai in game two. Brent Bailey drove in two with a couple of singles and Jayden Eggiman scored twice and walked.

Dakody Clemmer  threw a complete game two hitter, striking out seven batters. That's win number 7, most in the ACCAC.

A two-hitter.

Clemmer winds and throws, moves to 7-0.

Game 2 15-2 (seven inning run rule)

Central stole five bases in this game, all different base runners. Henderson and Justice Nakagawa hit sacrifice flies and the Vaqueros had twenty hits on the day. Twenty hits is ridiculous.

Ridiculous.

Ernie de la Trinidad doubled and tripled, Eggiman doubled, and so did Winchester. Winchester went three for three, scored three times, walked, and drove in two runs. Pretty much a perfect day at the plate. Winchester reached base every single at-bat in the DH when he wasn't laying down sac bunts, walking or hitting sac flies.

Andrew Chartand knocked in four runs with four hits in the lead-off position, and also walked.

That's twice this year he has driven in four runs in the one-hole. The one-hole. Who says that.

DLT drove in four runs, scored three and walked. Jaime Estrada went three for four and walked, making that four walks on the day. He was put out only twice on the day. Brent Bailey walked twice, scored thrice (who says that), and SS Roger Varela went two for two and drove in two.

Again, each member of the starting lineup got hits.

Starter Andrew Edwards had a nice start, giving up only an earned run, striking out four, and Grant Townsend, Sati Santa Cruz, and Jared Montoya finished off the Bears.

The Vaqueros pitching "did a great job of keeping the score down" said Head Coach Anthony Gilich.

"We did a lot of the little things that helped us win today."

Central recorded four double plays on the day. Now that's just plain good stuff.
