Central Arizona was swept by Yavapai Community College Tuesday afternoon and now are in a dead tie for first place in ACCAC conference play.
It doesn't get any easier this weekend as Central has two with an improving South Mountain team.
Game 1 2-9 (seven innings)
The Vaqueros were never ahead in this one as they fell behind 2-0 and 4-2 and then it hit again, the big inning. Yavapai scored four times in the bottom of the sixth and it was over. Central had eight hits on the day but none for extra bases and game one was a quiet one. Starter George Castillo had a rough outing but again, didn't walk a batter and as of now, has walked only one batter in his last 25 innings of play, none in his last four games. Some days they just plain hit you. Pikai Winchester had no problem with the Yavapai starter and reached twice with hits and scored. Bradley Morgan had a nice two-rbi single scoring Jayden Eggiman and Winchester.
Game 2 7-10
Central crafted a 5-2 lead in game two behind starter Peyton Remy, but again, a big four-run inning in the fourth and another in the sixth gave Yavapai a 10-7 lead and it stayed that way.
"We got outplayed in every phase of the game today" said head coach Anthony Gilich. "We have to get better to accomplish our goals."
Mitchell Robinson and Makoa Rosario blasted homeruns with Robinson getting three hits on the day and driving in three. Ernie de la Trinidad doubled again and has raised his average to a hefty .427. Only nine hits for the Vaquero's in game two and it was a day to forget.
Short memory. These two have been erased and the Vaqueros move on at 40-10 and in first place.
With work to do.
Side notes: Jaime Estrada reached base with three more walks and a single and has reached base via walk or hit in all but one game he has played in this year. That's 46 of 47 games. With no hits in game two Tuesday, Estrada's 11-game hitting streak was stopped.
Mitchell Robinson has two 9-game hitting streaks this year.
Caleb Henderson is now on a 13 game hitting streak, but has had a 15 game hitting streak early on.
