Vaq's sweep; take regular season title with 44 wins!

It's a good start when the second pitch to your leadoff goes out.

After a 17 game winning streak to start the season, a couple of questions three quarters of the way through, and a very large statement at the end, the regular season ACCAC title is Central Arizona's.

The Vaqueros swept Cochise College in the dusty desert Saturday afternoon with some dynamic performances. Here are a few names; Ernie de la Trinidad, Andrew Edwards, Dakody Clemmer, Pikai Winchester

Game 1  (11-7 seven innings)

Ernie de la Trinidad hit the Vaquero second pitch out for a solo, then hit a two run homerun later to drive in four runs in the leadoff position and it might have taken a little bit, but DLT is back stronger than ever after an early season beaning to help Central Arizona clinch the regular season title on the final baseball weekend. de la Trinidad went three for four and also scored twice. Dakody Clemmer won his ninth game of the season striking out seven in six innings of crafty pitching, Ben Skuro struck out two of his three in the final seventh inning, and Central won their last four games.

Smiles in the stands.

Caleb Henderson doubled twice, Jaime Estrada, and Brent Gibbs contributed two-baggers also.

Game 2   (9-4)

Pikai Winchester homered and tripled driving in four runs, and Mitchell Robinson hit one deep as Central jumped out early and the outcome of game two was almost never in question.

Andrew Edwards threw peas for six innings striking out ten Apaches. Swing-and-a-miss swing-and-a-miss swing-and-a-miss. Wow. Edwards finished the regular season at 5-1 with a save.

So there y'all are. The Central Arizona College Vaqueros, through MUCH hard work have won the ACCAC Conference regular season title.

"Thank you" said the head coach after the game one clinching congratulations. "We just have to keep improving in all phases of the game to achieve our goal". He didn't say that last part, but he said that, if you know what I'm saying.

The Region I play-offs start Thursday with Central as a host. As the number-one seed, they'll face the number four seed in Cochise again in Game 1. The other matchup features #2 Yavapai hosting #3 South Mountain.
