#24 Vaqueros clipped in 9th by #15 Gateway

A little bit chilly in Nevada but once the first pitch is thrown, nobody even thinks about it. Gateway Community College hung in there with Central's fireballers and a single in the bottom of the ninth capped a two run rally as the #15 team in Junior College baseball edged the #24 team 5-4.

JUCO RANKINGS

Central managed only six hits, one a two run double from Jake Vander Wal. Makoa Rosario stole a couple of bags, Pikai Duque-Winchester tripled and drove one in but couldn't score.

Gateway had only four hits themselves off Central's pitching team, but in the end, it was the walks.

"We'll never win a game giving up twelve walks" said head coach Anthony Gilich.

"But overall, Ryley and Nick threw well. We had some missed opportunities at the plate and on the bases. a defensive miscue or two, early season stuff."

Ryley Widell canned 8 in 3.2 and Nick Trogerlic-Iverson struck out four in his 3.2. Fourteen strikeouts for Gilich's team, impressive. Widell gave up only two hits, Trogerlic-Iverson just one. Only 10 hits in the game, but both teams combined for 19 walks. Ugh. Starting catcher Ty Johnson threw out three trying to steal, very, very nice.

Let's play two! The Vaqueros play baseball today with Eastern Utah and Southern Nevada.
