Schroeder homers twice-Vaqueros rip ACU

Even though this one was shortened to eight innings, it was still a pretty long game. The Central Arizona College Vaqueros drew 19 walks on the day, Jake Vander Wal and Sam Schroeder with four each and the final was 19-9 over Arizona Christian College.

The interesting stat of the day was Vander Wal not getting a hit, but driving in three runs.

"He walked twice with bases loaded and hit a SAC fly" said coach Anthony Gilich afterwards. "It was tough keeping the guys heads in this game, but we won by ten so that's fine. I'm surprised we gave up nine runs, but I'll take any and every win."

19 walks is quite an accomplishment, for both sides.

Schroeder went 2-2 overall, drove in five runs with two homers, and scored twice. That's a ball game when you reach six times. One of his homeruns was a homerun, but the other was a HOMERUN. The lefty hit one way out of the Big House, left of the palm tree, the biggest part of the yard.

"He really got hold of that one" Gilich said. "I was impressed".

Roger Varela and Alix Garcia each scored four times, Brad Morgan hit a triple and Justice Nakagawa drove in three himself.

Eight Central pitchers threw an inning apiece with Koa Eastlack striking out all of his three, Andrew Edwards threw a great sixth inning striking out two and getting his first win this year.

Lots of baseball this weekend, the Tejano Jacks from El Paso Community College come into Coolidge for a couple of double headers on Friday and Saturday, each starting at 11:00. The starters are Peyton Remy and Ryley Widell.
