Central Puts Up 21 Hits in Split

It might have been hailing and storming where you were, but the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day in Coolidge and the doubleheader started on time at 12 noon, Peyton Remy in game one, and Ryley Widell in game two.

Game 1

Peyton Remy does it again.

The first game was seven innings with Peyton Remy throwing six of them while fanning ten Apaches and giving up only four hits. Those are good numbers. Good enough to lead the conference. Remy leads the ACCAC in strikeouts after Tuesday's start.

ACCAC STATISTICS

It was a very good baseball game to watch with the Cowboys taking an early 3-2 lead after four innings on RBI's from Pikai Duque-Winchester, Alix Garcia and Jake Vander Wal, and the game went to the seventh inning tied 3-3.

Pikai went 4-4 in this game while scoring twice hitting and playing second, first baseman Alix Garcia also went 4-4. Garcia now leads the ACCAC in batting average, hitting .451, and Pikai is currently sixth with a .400 BA.

Bradley Gonzales faced four batters through the seventh and kept Cochise College off the board when Central came to bat in the bottom. And with bases loaded, it was Ty Johnson who hit a ball down the first base line into right field with one out to give Central Arizona yet another walk-off win, the final was 4-3.

Here is a number for you. Gonzales has an ERA of 0.00. Here's another. Remy's current ERA is 1.65.

The thought keeps coming back. "We have to find ways to win games like this" said Anthony Gilich waaaaaay back in the beginning of the season.

Game 2

The Vaqueros had their chances in this one, it's a mystery how this game ended in a 9-2 loss. In the bottom of the first, Brent Bailey hit a two run single with bases loaded through the hole between first and second for a 2-0 lead. The bases were loaded at least three other times in this one with no runs scoring. Bailey also ripped a triple into left centerfield.

Widell threw a nice five striking out eight and giving up only three hits, but they were timely hits allowing three Apache runs. Cochise led 5-2 after six innings and Central loaded the bases in the seventh and eighth, but nothing. A couple of late inning homeruns gave the Cochise the DH split.

Brent Bailey rounds first heading to third for trips.

Notes

-Duque-Winchester went 6-7 in the DH Tuesday.

-Jake Vander Wal is an ACCAC RBI leader, he is currently fifth in RBI's with 18

-The pitching staff leads the ACCAC in strikeouts by a lot. They have 191 in 147 IP

-The Vaqueros are second in the ACCAC in HBP with 32. "We'd love to lead the country in HBP" head coach Anthony Gilich has once said. "It's almost like a badge of courage." Or did he say "honor"? Either way. Hit by a pitch is as good as a hit and why doesn't anyone ever say that.

-Things are starting to gel, while the Cowboys aren't at their best or in "mid-season form", you can see it coming. It will be a fun and exciting season for these Cowboys, it's a promise.

Matt Kroon takes a game 2 walk.
