If you were opening up the whole double elimination Western Distrtict Championship tournament, you want to start like Central Arizona College did, with five runs in the top of the first inning. It was a fairly close baseball game until the Vaqueros scored three in the eighth and added six more in the ninth.

The final was a 15-5 first round win over the College of Southern Nevada, the District 18 Champs.

Grant Townsend threw a full seven innings striking out seven, got hit a little early, but not late, then Nick Trogerlic-Iverson and Sati Santa Cruz threw scoreless eight and ninth inngs to shut down any of the little hope the Coyotes had by then.

The Vaqueros hit the ball all day from top to bottom in the lineup with Chris Diehl driving in five runs, Justice Nakagawa three, and both homered. Ty Johnson hit four singles and scored three times, and Alix Garcia and Roger Varela each had three hits apiece. Varela doubled, scored two runs and drove in two more. Andrew Chartrand walked three times on the day as leadoff.

Friday's winners bracket game features Central Arizona against the Western District host Western Arizona, the other ACCAC representative. Arizona Western won against Trinidad State 5-1.

The game starts at 12 noon with Ryley Widell on the mound.
