South Mountain Community College
South Mountain Community College brought their bats this time and rallied late to upend the Vaqueros in the second game of the home-away series Wednesday. The final was 9-7 in ten innings.
Central gave starter Grady Miller a 5-0 lead early but a base hit here and there got South Mountain back to within a run at 5-4 and that's when Brennan Reback gapped one into right-center scoring Brett Harris to give Central a small cushion at 6-4. South Mountain then scored three runs in the top of the eighth to take a 7-6 lead, and Central answered to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. The Cougars put together a few runs in the top of the tenth to hold off the 15-3 Vaqueros. Central is now 1-3 in conference play with two this weekend against Yavapai Community College. The three losses have been by a combined four runs.
Nine hits on the day for Central, Liam Spence and Alix Garcia with two apiece.
Grady Miller fires in the fourth Wednesday.
