Central Gains Split With Phoenix College

Central Arizona College couldn't get the bats rolling in game one of this Saturday doubleheader in Phoenix, but they finally did in game two as the Vaqueros split the weekend DH with the Phoenix College Bears.

The finals were 6-2 and 9-0.

In game two, starter Jason Nelson struck out a whopping 11 batters in 6.1 innings, while giving up only a single as Central shut out the Bears 9-0. If you have to split a DH, you'd want leave on a note like that.

The bullpen of Joe Standley and Jordan Suarez did what they do and that's close out the game quietly. Phoenix had only two hits on the day. This was the 11th shutout of the season, Central collected nine last year, it's only early April.

"We have guys that know how to pitch" said the head coach Anthony Gilich way back before the season started.

Ernny Ordonez hit two doubles going 3-5, Alix Garcia and Clayton Keyes also doubled, and Brennan Reback hitting 9th, went 4-4. Reback stole three more bases to give him an NJCAA leading 29. Nice production from the 9th hitter, although not a surprise. Reback is hitting .291 on the year. Garcia and Daniel Cervantes each had two hits.

Central Arizona College is now 33-7 and 13-7. That's quite a record but only good for third place in the ACCAC currently. That just shows what's ahead for these Vaqueros.

Upcoming:

-Pima College (16-20 and 8-18) Tuesday for an afternoon DH.

-Away and home with Scottsdale Community College (16-22 and 10-14) on Friday-Saturday.

-A game with Chandler-Gilbert Community College (19-21 and 6-18).

After these games...it's "The Stretch" with series against conference leaders Arizona Western, Yavapai, South Mountain, Eastern Arizona, and the season finale series versus Cochise.

Hold on to your hats!
