Trogrlic-Iverson Throws More Zeros

You can't score nine runs a game every game. Please remember that's only an average these Vaqueros are currently sporting.

When you can't score nine a game, you get 'em on whenever you can, and then get 'em around any way you can. There are lots of ways to do that this year.

Central Arizona College stole seven more bases as they continued to lead the nation in that category with 137 all told. Alix Garcia stole a few and that's five for him this year, Clayton Keyes stole two more, and Daniel Cervantes, Devin Ray, and Reagan Teegarden each stole another as Central beat Chandler-Gilbert Community College at La Casa Grande on Tuesday afternoon. Brennan Reback and Keyes are in the top five nationally, Reback with 32 and Keyes with 30.

Central chipped away this game with a couple in the bottom of the first, one in the fourth and fifth and another in the eighth. A quiet day at the plate as Central had only their fourth game of this 45 game season without an extra base hit. Quiet for Central, busy for the Coyotes as they had to pay attention to the basepath mayhem all afternoon.

And it was Nick Trogrlic-Iverson again, gaining his eighth win (8-1) with 6 strong innings, striking out seven more. No runs allowed.

"Iverson continues to be outstanding. He pitched out of a few jams and got his zeros" said the head coach Anthony Gilich.

"We just hit ok, but we were able to keep some pressure on them with our baserunning."

Central Arizona ("Onizona" my daughter says) is now is a remarkable 38-7 over all, and 18-7 in conference play as they remain a full four conference games back of South Mountain.

That's 21 wins in their last 23 games. It's the annual night game at the Coyotes place this evening. First pitch is at 6:00PM.

It's a battle royale this weekend in Coolidge as Arizona Western visits for a double header. Arizona Western is currently a game and a half behind Central, in third place. This weekend begins "The Stretch". All killer, no filler through the season ending series with Cochise at the end of the month.
