Exciting Walk-Off in Vaqueros Sweep

Central Arizona College won their 7th straight game Saturday afternoon with a double-header sweep of Paradise Valley Community College.

And the day had it's excitement.

With another sparkler in game one, starter Lucas Knowles left after 5 and 2/3 having struck out eight Cougars, and with a 2-1 lead. After PVCC tied the game at two in the top of the seventh, and even went ahead 3-2 in the top of the extra inning, Central came back with two tense (and exciting in the end) runs to win the baseball game 4-3.

Central had a chance for the win in the bottom of the seventh with the game tied at two. With two outs, bases full, and the epic 3-2 count, catcher Brady Welch was hit by a pitch and for a second, the win was Central's.

But one second after that first second, Central was heading into extras. Blue rules that Welch leaned into the pitch, which technically is a strike, which was Welch's third. Batter out, let's move to the eighth.

Paradise hit a lead-off homerun in the top of the eighth off Zane Strand, which prompted him to then sit down the next three batters with K's.

In the Central bottom of the eighth, Brennan Reback led off with a single, Ian Raidy then sacrificed him to second. After Luke Schwartz grounded out to short, Clayton Keyes hit one into the right centerfield gap for a triple and tied the game. Ernny Ordonez then singled to center for the two-out walk-off and the first game win. Jacob McKeon hit a sacrifice fly which was quite large in a game where runs were at a premium.

Whew!

In game two behind Jonathan Stroman, Central took a big 8-0 lead, and swept the DH with an 11-5 win. Keyes and Ordonez homered, Ernny going 4-4, and Josh Dudden drove in three runs. McKeon added two hits for The Vaqueros.

A very nice blanking from DJ Carpenter and Mitchell DeCovich fro the final 2 and 2/3.
