Vaqueros Sweep DH From Arizona Western

The play-off run for the ACCAC is nothing but fascinating.

The Central Arizona College Vaqueros made it even more interesting with a double-header sweep of Arizona Western at The Big House on Saturday afternoon, in two games that could have gone either way.

Which is only fitting for these two.

The Vaqueros now sit at one game back of the fourth and final play-off position at 16-10 in conference and 30-14 overall. A double header with 6th place Pima Community College looms on Tuesday as the Aztecs are 1.5 games behind Central.

"Very gutsy game all around in game 1" said head coach Anthony Gilich.

"Our pitchers threw on short rest and the offense scored some huge runs after we lost a lead."

A double from Clayton Keyes and rbi single from Brennan Reback tied the baseball game in the bottom of the fourth for Central, and when Zach Hogueisson hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, it gave the Vaqueros a 7-5 lead. After giving up one run in the top of the sixth, central added yet two more runs in the bottom of the sixth with the help of an rbi double from Matt Aribal.

Bring in Dakota Donovan for the top of the seventh and it's game 1 over with a final of 9-6.

In game two, it was 6-6 after nine, and in the bottom of the tenth inning for Central, Liam Spence reached on the fifthe Western error of the day, Aribal walked, and after Ernny Ordonez lined out to first, a Western passed ball moved both runners up.

Western intentionally walked Hogueisson, and with bases full, Hunter Jump worked an intense at bat for a "walk-off walk-off".

"We needed those two" said the head coach. "Jonathan Stroman threw great out of the pen."

Stay tuned folks. This will be fun.
