Vaqueros Win 5th In A Row With DH Sweep At Eastern Arizona

For starters, you can't expect any more from your starter than the Central Arizona College Vaqueros were given.

And another thing.

When it comes down to the way this season is ending, you gotta win. So far so good. The Vaqueros have won six of their last seven.

It's a 2-0 Central shutout in the first of two games against Eastern Arizona down south as Avery Jones threw all seven, scattered 6 hits and won his 7th of the season (7-3).

Second baseman Matt Aribal drove in both Central runs with and rbi single and a sacrifice fly.

Central completed the sweep with an 11 hit break-out (seven extra-base hits from those 11), and a quick 8-0 start for a 12-2 win and a critical sweep on Tuesday. Game two's pitching duties were split four ways with Jye Deeble (2-1) winning in relief of Dakota Donovan. Brandon Jenkins and Leo Palacios threw the final three innings, with Palacios striking out all six of his outs.

Now is the complicated part: Play-off scenario with two games left for Central Arizona with some teams having three left.

Central Arizona can finish as high as second in the conference.

Here is what is known.

-Central sweeps Cochise in the remaining DH and in. Cochise has already won the conference regular season and will be the #1 seed.

-Lose both and it could be sixth in the division. But there is still a way to sneak in with a DH loss. South Mountain would have to lose remaining three and there would have to be an Arizona Western split, or being swept by Scottsdale.

-With a weekend split, good scenarios remain as well as not good, too many to detail.

That friends is as clear as it gets. It's the biggest and tightest race to the finish with six teams racing that has been seen in many years.

The Vaqueros are at home for this DH starting at 12 noon Saturday.
