Central Clinches Conference Outright And #1 Seed In Bottom Of 10th With Millas Throwing Eight Zeros And Harrison Walk-Off

-Blade Vaquero Baseball Beat

(Signal Peak) - I stopped to think about it and I really couldn't believe what I saw when I looked at the scoreboard again.

0-0 after nine?

Man.

Central starting pitcher Theo Millas threw eight shut-out innings, the South Mountain pitcher Raul Garayzar threw a scoreless seven, and this is the kind of game you love to see.

Okay Central, let's see how you can find a way to win THIS one.

Afterall, at stake today is the regular season conference title and the outright #1 seed in the Division 1 Region 1 play-offs.

This years mantra: You have to find a way to win games like this. These Vaqueros have been "finding different ways to win this one" all year long, and this one was won in the good ol' fashioned way, the way all players dream of.

Marcus Harrison hit a nasty change-up from the South Mountain reliever with the bases loaded, two outs and a full count through the left side and it's another Central dogpile.

Credit to South, because it takes a lot of courage to throw a change-up in this particular situation, and a credit to Central because Harrison expected this pitch.

"I wish I could have fully gotten around on it, but I did hit it solidly" said Harrison.

He dug down and out to get to it, got solid contact on a 3/4 swing, because that's what you have to do, Central took a great baseball game with a final of 1-0.

Each team threatened in the ninth and tenth, Central second pitcher Mario Bejarano threw the ninth and tenth and got himself out of the first-and-third jam with nobody out in the top of the tenth with an out and two strikeouts.

The fact is, besides a leadoff double, he gave South Mountain nothing to hit from there out.

In the bottom of the tenth, Central loaded 'em up with rip up the middle from Blake Avila to lead-off, after Jonathon Hernandez popped up, pinch-hitter Blake Young walked, and with two outs, Fisher Pyatt worked a masterful walk, and then came Harrison's game winning hit.

Wow.

Starter Theo Millas threw eight innings dipping in and out with control.

"He's had these incredible matchups against all the aces all year long" said the head Coach Anthony Gilich.

"He has thrown in these pitching match-ups against the other team's prospects and aces all year long and won almost every game" he continued.

Millas is 8-2 with an ERA of 1.94.

Wow again.

THEO!

As of today, Central has a nice six and a half game lead over second place Pima, with another homer this afternoon at McSwain Field against South Mountain. South Mountain is now 37-12 and 21-10.
