CAC Surges to Win Over Indian Hills

The Central Arizona College men's basketball team used a second-half surge to rally past 11th-ranked Indian Hills 84-77 on Tuesday night at the George Young Activity Center.

The No. 18 Vaqueros trailed 43-31 at halftime before outscoring the Warriors 53-34 in the second half.

"We defended," CAC coach Jordan Dreiling said. "We rebounded it well. Our offense started clicking. We started knocking down open shots. I was really proud of them for staying together and fighting together and pulling it out in the end. I thought our effort collectively was awesome. Everybody played a role."

Five players scored in double figures for the Vaqueros, who improved to 12-3 on the season. Indian Hills fell to 14-2.

DesJuan Newton led the way for CAC with 18 points, while Austin Cooke finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Cooke made 5 of 7 shots from three-point range.

Vincentas Aleksandravicius scored 15 points for the Vaqueros, who also got 14 points and eight assists from DeAndre Mathieu along with 12 points and 12 rebounds from Herve Aholode.
