SIGNAL PEAK -- Central Arizona College knocked down 17 3-pointers in a 126-72 rout of West Wind Academy on Wednesday night at the George Young Activity Center.

The point total was a season high for the Vaqueros (2-3), who scored 124 in a season-opening home victory over the Grand Canyon University Club team.

Trevor Irish scored 27 points for CAC, which was coming off an 0-3 road trip to West Texas. Danny Garrick and Will Osborn both made five 3-pointers. Garrick scored 23 points and Osborn had 17.

The Vaqueros also got 14 points apiece from Quincy Smith and Mattia Cafisi and 11 from Cedric Cotton.

Ahead 61-43 at halftime, the Vaqueros began the second half with a 22-7 surge that featured five 3-pointers, including two by Garrick.

Osborn's 3-pointer extended the lead to 40 points at 103-63 with 6:59 remaining. Central matched its largest margin of victory this season when Alfred Roberts nailed a 3-pointer with 25.9 seconds to play.

"It was good to see the shots go in, especially after the trip we had," CAC coach Tramaine Aaron said. "But we need better shot selection. They were falling tonight, so it didn't look bad."

Aaron said the Vaqueros also need to be more consistent on defense.

"We're still giving up a lot of easy shots," he said. "We weren't very good in the first half, but much better in the second. We need to put 40 minutes of defense together."

Gregory Gray led the Wings with 28 points, followed by Christian Alexis with 12 and Cristiano Gomes with 11.
