May 21, 2022

Central Arizona Track and Field teams competed at the NJCAA National Track and Field Championships last week, producing a 6th place overall standing for the women and 22nd for the men.  The women were the top placed team from the ACCAC while the men were a few points behind Mesa (11th), Paradise Valley (12th), and Pima (17th).

The highlight of the meet came from Central Arizona's own Princess Kara who shined on the national stage by winning the discus in an impressive 56.51m mark.  The mark, which is a new NJCAA National Record and Meet Record, caps off an impressive season for the sophomore from Nigeria.  Princess also achieved All-American status by placing 4th in the shot put with a 13.79m mark.

Juvonna Cornette was National Champion in the 100 meter dash, running a 11.42 in the process.  She was also a key contributor in the 4x100 relay, as her squad placed 2nd overall.  Other members from the squad were Cece Charles, Silet Gray, and Zamesha Myle.

Myle also had an impressive meet, by placing 2nd in the triple jump with a 12.35m mark and 5th in the long jump (5.89m).

Other notable performances from the women's team was Kaise Ugeh (7th overall) in the shot put and (8th overall) in the javelin throw, Silet Gray (8th overall) in the 400 hurdles, and Cece Charles (8th overall) in the 400 meter.

The men had some solid performances from a few individuals specifically Bryce Holdridge who placed 3rd overall in the javelin.  Bryce, who was returning from his first performance since an injury in March, helped the men secure critical points in team standings.

Godwin Charles became the next All-American by placing 4th in the triple jump with a 15.33m mark.

Rounding out scoring for the men's team was an 8th place finish from the 4x100 team which consisted of Royden Peets, Razak Abdul, Romar Stapleton, and Ousman Jagne.
