Men Track and Field Earn Runner-Up at Region 1 Championships

The ACCAC Region 1 Championship Concluded on Saturday with the Vaqueros taking home runner-up honors.  The Vaqueros edged out Mesa Community College 213 to 210 but were distant behind Pima Community College, which won the meet with 258 points. 

Individual Region 1 Champions from CAC were:

Julian Campos (10k) ran 32:12.88 which qualified him for the NJCAA National Meet and has him ranked 27th in the nation.

Cameron Thomas (javelin) threw 198" 4' which qualified him for the NJCAA National Meet and he remains ranked 3rd in the nation.

Samuel Gilson (3000m Steeplechase) ran 9:24.58 which qualified him for the NJCAA National meet and has him ranked 16th in the nation.

4x100 Relay consisting of Joshua Mascall, Myles Copeland-Naulty, David Lynch, and Sharvis Simmonds.  The team ran 39.93 which qualifies them for the NJCAA National Meet and has the team ranked 4th in the nation.

Sharvis Simmonds (110m Hurdles) ran a 13.73 which qualified him for the NJCAA National Meet and has him ranked 1 in the nation.  Sharvis also broke the Region 1 Championship record with his time.  

David Lynch (100m) ran a 10.50 which qualified him for the NJCAA National Meet and has him ranked 36th in the nation.

Connor Chaffee (800m) ran a 1:50.62 which qualified him for the NJCAA National meet and he remains 6th in the nation.

Sharvis Simmonds (400m Hurdles) ran a 52.55 which qualified him for the NJCAA National meet and has him ranked 5th in the nation.

David Lynch (200m) ran a 20.93 which qualified him for the NJCAA National meet and has him ranked 15th in the nation.

The following athletes may not have won an individual event but helped the Vaqueros net second place by placing in the Top 8 at the meet:

Daniel Hendrickson scored 3 points total all in the Decathlon.

David Lynch scored 22.5 points total in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100 Relay.

Sharvis Simmonds scored 22.5 points total in the 110 hurdles, 400 hurdles, and 4x100 Relay.

Brenden Dawson scored 3 points total all in the 110 hurdles.

Ariel Clark scored 8 points total in the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles.

Myles Copeland-Naulty scored 13.5 points total in the 200m, 400m, and 4x100 relay.

Joshua Mascall scored 18.5 points total in the 200, 400, and 4x100 relay.

Connor Chaffee scored 12 points total in the 800 and 4x800 relay.

Jadan Augustine scored 5 points total in the 800 and 4x800 relay.

Luca Onyejiaka scored 2 points all in the 4x800 relay.

Julian Campos scored 18 points total in the 10000 and 1500.

Samuel Gilson scored 16 points total in the 3000 steeplechase and 5k.

Jorge Corona scored 14 points total in the 10000, 3000 steeplechase and 4x800 relay.

Michael Sexson scored 2 points total all in the 10000.

Asante Maez scored 8 points total all in the 5k.

Garrett Pritchard scored 17 points total in the shot put, discus and hammer.

Cameron Thomas scored 16 points total in the javelin, shot put and discus.

Milo Lammertink scored 7 points total in the high jump and pole vault.

Gabriel Oliveria scored 4 points total all in then long jump.

The season concludes on May 16th, 17th, and 18th at the NJCAA D1 National Championships which is being held at Louisiana Monroe University.
