Let's go! Men-Women Cross Country is off and running!

Riverside, CA- Central Arizona College men/s and women's cross county competed in their first race of the season in Riverside, CA and had some impressive marks set by both squads.  Both squads competed against bigger universities from California on a lightly overcast day.  The men placed 6th out of 23 teams in the Invitational section of the race, while the women placed 7th out of 18 teams in the open section.

Race Results

The men were led by freshman Gilbert Kigen (Kenya) with a blazing 23.46 8k mark.  With his effort Gilbert won the race easily outdistancing himself against the 2nd place runner from Southern Utah.  Coming in next for the Vaqueros was freshman Jorge Perez (CA) with a 24.44 mark, Perez finished the course with a outstanding 18th place finish.  Rounding out the top five for the Vaqueros was Brian Masasyesva, sophomore (Tuba City HS) with a 25.05, over a minute pr from his race last year.  Emmaunel Hildalgo, freshman (McCllintok HS) was fourth for CAC with 25.57 and fifth for the team was Ben Noriaga, sophomore (Rio Rico HS) with a 26.35, nearly two minutes faster than his time from last year.

The Vaqueras were led by sophomore Marleena Eubanks (Jamica) with a 19.11 5k.  The next runner up for CAC was freshman sensation Jessica Shirley (Chinle HS) with a 19.18, who pr'd with her mark at Riverside.  Sophomores Ramsay Chancellor (Mountain Pointe HS) and Marley Henson (Rio Rico HS) were 3rd and 4th respectively for the Vaqueras both with a 19.38 time.  Rounding out the top 5 was freshman Kaitlyn Volk (Vista Grande HS) with a 20.15.

CAC will be back in action on September 25th as they face off at ACCAC Conference Championship in Tucson, AZ.
