Central Arizona College Cross Country sweep the titles at the NJCAA Regional Championships

Central Arizona College's men and Women's Cross Country teams won the NJCAA Region 1 championships this past weekend in Tucson Arizona. The mens team won with a score of 22 points. They placed their top 5 runners in the top 9 places.  Mesa Community college was second with a score of 52 points.

The CAC's James Kapel won the mens race, 2nd was CAC's Habtemu Cheney, and third was also CAC's Aron Orar.

The CAC Women won with a score of 24 points. Mesa community college was second with a score of 50 points. CAC took the top three spots in the Women's race: Mykayah Richard won the Womnes race, 2nd was Alisia Hoyumptewa, third was Lesego Mpshe.

Coach Tavares was very proud of his team. "These men and Women student athletes have been training hard since the summer. I am very happy with how the team has progressed, and how we are looking heading into Nationals.

CAC held out a few of their top 5 runners from both the men and Women squad, and were still able to capture both titles.

CAC's next and last meet of the season will be the NJCAA Division 1 Cross Country National Championships on November 9th, which will be held in Albuquerque, N.M.
