Central Arizona College's men and Women's Cross Country teams won the NJCAA Region 1 championships this past weekend in Tucson Arizona. The mens team won with a score of 22 points. They placed their top 5 runners in the top 9 places.  Mesa Community college was second with a score of 52 points.

The CAC's James Kapel won the mens race, 2^nd was CAC's Habtemu Cheney, and third was also CAC's Aron Orar.

The CAC Women won with a score of 24 points. Mesa community college was second with a score of 50 points. CAC took the top three spots in the Women's race: Mykayah Richard won the Womnes race, 2^nd was Alisia Hoyumptewa, third was Lesego Mpshe.

Coach Tavares was very proud of his team. "These men and Women student athletes have been training hard since the summer. I am very happy with how the team has progressed, and how we are looking heading into Nationals.

CAC held out a few of their top 5 runners from both the men and Women squad, and were still able to capture both titles.

CAC's next and last meet of the season will be the NJCAA Division 1 Cross Country National Championships on November 9^th, which will be held in Albuquerque, N.M.
