SIGNAL PEAK — Ballplayers can be creatures of habit, and a change of schedule can mess with everything.

That was the case for the Central Arizona College softball team on Wednesday when its doubleheader against Yavapai was moved from Prescott, where it had been scheduled to be played on Tuesday, to Signal Peak. Instead of spending the afternoon on what is typically an off day, the Vaqueras were on the diamond being swept by the fourth-ranked Roughriders by the scores of 8-0 and 16-11.

"We didn't show up to play. We were just here. We were just present. We didn't come out with an intent to win the game," Central coach Shelby Davis said.

Wednesday's doubleheader was originally scheduled for Tuesday in Prescott but was moved because of poor field conditions as a result from this past weekend's storm.

"It throws off the routine a little bit," Davis said. "When you are doing well, you kind of stick to the same routine and maybe that is a factor, but I told the girls that you have to control what you can control and if it's rain or weather or umpires, you cannot control that."

Arizona Community College Athletic Conference-leading Yavapai (17-2, 13-1), the defending Division I Region 1 Tournament champion, jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning of Game 1 and added a run in the third inning and four more in the fourth on Jaydee Boursaw's RBI double.

The runs were all that Roughrider pitcher Amy Robinson would need as she tossed a three-hit shutout while striking out three and walking none.

"I don't know if that was a factor, but Yavapai showed up and this wasn't typical of their schedule either," Davis said of the change of schedule. "That's why we have to take every game we have and show up and you can't control what you can't control."

Ashleigh Withers, Felicia Withers and Lindsey Smith were responsible for the three hits by the Vaqueras (11-5, 8-3), who entered Wednesday looking to rebound from a 6-5, eight-inning loss to Pima on Saturday.

Devin Hally picked up the loss for Central, giving up eight runs and 12 hits. She struck out two and walked two.

With the schedule change, Central's doubleheader on April 8 that was originally scheduled to be at home against the Roughriders will now be played in Prescott.
