Softball Swipes Two From Scottsdale

The Vaqueras softball team behind Kyrstan Garcia held Scottsdale Community College to one run, then blew the first game open with a nine-run seventh inning to win game one of the Saturday doubleheader 14-1. Garcia threw the whole game spreading out five singles and one double, also striking out seven in winning her sixth game of the year. Garcia is now 6-2. She also doubled twice and singled, scored twice, and drove in a run. Her batting average is .413. Madison Besaw drove in three runs and homered. Leadoff hitter Ashleigh Withers tripled and went 3-5, Jessenia Miranda doubled and Makiya Thomas and Aliya Ewell had two hits apiece.

In game two, the Central pitcher Zoe Collins co-led the team in hits as Garcia did in Game 1 with a 3-4 day including a triple and stolen base. Central stole seven bases in game two (ten on the day), opening up lots of opportunities they took advantage of late in the game. Central trailed 3-1 after four innings but added six runs in the final three to complete the sweep. Second baseman Alliah Rangel went 3-3, Thomas and Withers had two more hits apiece , and after 14 hits and a pitcher that threw a complete game without giving up a walk in Collins, Central completes the Saturday sweep with a 7-3 win.
