SIGNAL PEAK — A pair of mercy-rule wins on Saturday capped a perfect week for the Central Arizona College softball team.
The Vaqueras routed Scottsdale 10-0 and 12-4, finishing with 10 hits in the opener and 13 in Game 2.
"We needed to get out of this week 6-0," CAC coach Shelby Davis said. "That was the goal. Getting two run-rule wins was good for our mentality and it was good for our pitchers, who've had a long two weeks."

Central has won nine in a row. The Vaqueras are 27-10 overall and 22-8 in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference.
Baylee Eaton pitched a two-hitter in the five-inning opener, and Trinity Valentine overcame a rough start to retire the final 12 batters in Game 2, which also ended in the fifth. They were backed by a CAC offense that scored three or more runs in six of eight at-bats.

"Our hitters made good adjustments and we executed with runners in scoring position," Davis said. "Being able to execute the game plan (at the plate) was huge and gave our pitchers some confidence."
Sonia Solis went 2 for 3 with a three-run double in Game 1. Madison Besaw smacked a three-run double in Game 2.
Only one batter advanced past first base against Easton in the opener. She gave up a leadoff single in the first and a two-out infield single in the third. The left-hander struck out three and walked two.

"She was in attack mode," Davis said. "That's what we need from her" going into the final month of the regular season.

The three-run double by Solis came with one out in the first. Danielle Farinas had a two-run double in CAC's four-run third inning, and Isabel Soto's RBI single polished off a three-run fourth. The Vaqueras also got RBI groundouts from Soto in the third and Michaela Kittredge in the fourth along with Nicol Ley's sacrifice fly in the third.

Scottsdale (8-32, 4-28 ACCAC) had three hits in the first inning of Game 2, including an RBI single by Marissa Murillo. Ariana Lopez singled leading off the second. Both played at Casa Grande Union before transferring to Vista Grande.

Also on the Scottsdale roster are Celia Torres of CG Union and Sienna Lewis of Vista Grande. The Artichokes are coached by Freddy Cabanillas, who went 114-98 as CG Union's coach from 2007-13.

Scottsdale stunned the Vaqueras in Game 2 with a three-run first inning and tied it 4-4 with a run in the second. But Valentine retired the final three batters in the second and set down the side in order in the third, fourth and fifth.
Valentine allowed four hits, struck out four, walked one and hit one.
