Bio

Central Arizona College has named Michael Owens as the new head coach for the women’s volleyball program. Michael spent two seasons as head coach before and now returns as the program has been reestablished after a 6-year hiatus.

Between stints as head coach, he was the owner/director for Southern Arizona Volleyball Academy in Tucson, Arizona and the head coach for Canyon del Oro High School in Oro Valley, Arizona.

At SAVA Michael led teams to multiple top three finishes in National Qualifiers and many outright tournament wins. He also has taken teams to Brazil and Mexico to compete in tournaments internationally. The club established a culture of excellence that allowed many athletes to continue in their passion for volleyball by playing at the next level at universities throughout the United States.

At Canyon del Oro in 6 years, he led the team to the Arizona State playoffs 5 years in a row culminating in a 2nd place finish at the 4A level in 2021.

Michael is also a Spanish professor at Central and takes seriously helping the student athlete in both the gym and the classroom. He is married to his wife Natalia and together have 3 kids, Andrea, Alex and Antony. All three also play volleyball with the oldest, Andrea, playing at the University of North Texas.
