Bio
Shelby Barnette became the athletic director of Central Arizona College in 2022 after coaching softball for the college. Barnette was the head softball coach for the Vaqueras for 7 years (2015-2022) and helped the program regain national rankings. She lead the Vaqueras back to the college world series in 2017 after the program's last appearance in 2005. Barnette guided countless athletes to NCAA universities and her teams produced a high number of Academic All-Americans. In the athletic director role, she oversees 11 sports: softball, baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s track and field, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s rodeo, and volleyball.
She attended Chandler's Seton Catholic Prep, where she was named the Arizona softball player of the year in 2003. Barnette earned an associate of arts degree from CAC as a student-athlete. She was a member of the 2005 NJCAA National Championship team for softball. She then played softball at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, before obtaining a bachelor’s degree in political science from Arizona State University in 2008. In 2013, she earned a master’s degree in human relations from Northern Arizona University while serving as the head softball coach at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
Barnette is active in the Arizona sports community. She serves as the ACCAC President, and is a committee member of the NJCAA D1 Basketball, Cross Country and Track & Field. Barnette is also a member of Women Leader's in Sports.
