WNCC baseball falls to No. 6 Central Arizona

                PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team continued their Spring Break trip with a doubleheader with Central Arizona College and dropped a doubleheader on Monday to the No. 6-ranked team in the NJCAA national poll.

                The first game saw the Cougars manage just two hits in falling 8-1. The second contest saw Central Arizona score early to claim the 13-0 win.

                The first game was close through two innings until Central Arizona scored three in the third and then added two more in the fifth for a 5-0 lead. WNCC plated one in the sixth with Tucker Deal singled and Dylan Harris walked. Shintaro Inoue then singled home Deal, but that was all WNCC could get.

                Central Arizona added three in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-1 lead and held WNCC scoreless for the win.
                WNCC managed just two hits in the contest, both coming in the sixth in breaking up the no-hitter.

                Adrian Short took the loss, going 4 1/3 innings in scattering seven hits and striking out eight. Zane Hendrickx finished off the game, going 1 2/3 innings in allowing three hits and striking out one.

                The second game saw WNCC manage just three hits, but they started hitting in the first when Inoue had a double. But, WNCC couldn't string hits together to get in runs.

                Central Arizona, however, scored three in the first, eight in the second and two in the third for the 13-0 lead and never looked back.

                WNCC got a double by Inoue and singles by Ashton Ross and Caleb Caciari.

                Valentin Blanc took the loss, going two innings in allowing 11 runs, walking five, and striking out two. Asahi Nakano tossed one inning in allowing two runs with a strikeout. Cameron Meyer finished off the game with a solid performance on the mound, going three innings in not allowing a hit and walking just one.

                WNCC will continue the Spring break trip when they face South Mountain Community College on Tuesday.
