Men's Basketball rallies for a 76-68 win over Central Arizona

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Men's Basketball team (16-6, 7-4) snapped a two-game losing skid with a 76-68 win over Central Arizona (8-15, 3-8) on Saturday afternoon at the House Gymnasium.

Edwin Suarez scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to post a double-double and Matt Anglo chipped in with 13 points as the Matadors returned home to beat the Vaqueros.

Arizona Western trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half as the Vaqueros opened a 24-13 lead with 8:05 remaining in the first half. The Matadors closed the first half on an 18-7 run to tiethe  game at 31-31 at the break.

Central Arizona opened up a six-point lead early in the second half before the Matadors snuck in front of the Vaqueros at 57-56 on a Paora Winitana free throw. Engel Gutierrez hit a three-pointer with just over four minutes to go in the second half to give the Matadors a 64-60 lead. The Matadors outscored the Vaqueros 12-8 over the finals four minutes to earn the win.

The Matadors are back at home on Wednesday, February 5, hosting Southern Nevada at 7:30 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
