Melicia Nelson flirts with a triple-double as No. 10 Women's Basketball uses 21-9 quarter to top Central Arizona

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (6-1) stepped away from ACCAC Division II play for a game at Central Arizona College (4-3) on Tuesday in Coolidge.

  • The No. 10 ranked Aztecs (ACCAC Division II) defeated the Vaqueras (ACCAC Division I) 76-58 as Pima earned their fourth straight win.
  • The Aztecs outscored the Vaqueras 21-9 in the third quarter to take a 54-40 lead. The Aztecs led 33-31 at halftime.
  • Sophomore Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) scored a team-high 19 points as she went 7 for 14 from the field. She fell short of a double-double with nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.
  • Freshman Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) came up short on a triple-double as she finished the game with 16 points on 4 for 7 shooting with 11 rebounds, seven assists and two steals. She was 2 for 3 from beyond the arc.
  • Freshman Kiley Sours-Miller was a rebound short of a double-double after going for 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
  • Freshman Kennedi Niemann also scored in double figures with 10 points to go with three rebounds, three assists and three steals. She was also 2 for 3 from downtown.
  • Sophomore Mattanaya Vital (Amphitheater HS) added eight points and three assists.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Wednesday, Dec. 4 when they host South Mountain Community College in ACCAC conference play. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
