Vaqueros Win Two

The Central Arizona baseball team won two games against out of state opponents on Friday.

In the opener, Central beat New Mexico Junior College 5-3.  The Vaqueros jumped to a 2-1 lead in the first with RBI doubles from both David Petrino and Manny Ramirez.  The Thunderbird pitchers got six consecutive shutout innings and held a 3-2 lead going in to the bottom of the eighth.  After a leadoff hit by Cody Farrell and Manny Ramirez reached on an error, Spencer O'Neil launched a 1-1 fastball over the centerfield fence to secure the win.  Despite 7 strikeouts and allowing 0 earned runs, ace Nicco Blank got the no decision.  Junior Zepeda pitched the ninth and notched his 5th save of the year.

In game two, the Vaqueros got the bats rolling early and often scoring 5 in the 2nd, 4 in the 3rd and 5 in the 4th to overwhelm the visiting Miles Pioneers (MT) 14-2.  The freshman middle infield led the offense for the Vaqueros with shortstop Brad Holland going 3-4 with a double and 4 RBI and second baseman Nashea Diggs collecting 3 hits and 3 RBI as well.  Connor Noble picked up the win after a 5 inning and 4 strikeout performance.

Central improves to 21-7 on the season.  Next, they face Canadian-based Douglas College at 10:30 on Saturday.
