Vaqueros restart Conference play with a 6-1 win over South Mountain

Good teams have players that step up when their number is called.  The Vaqueros inserted two new players at the bottom of the order and both provided a spark.

Aldo Koutsoyanopulos and Brad Holland patrolled the left side defense, making several solid plays.  Koutsoyanopulos fielded the bunts well, but it was his bunt that turned the game around.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Riley Joyce and Spencer O'Neil started the frame with back to back singles.   Koutsoyanopulos then laid down a sacrifice bunt that pitcher Jared Mattera threw wildly into the right-field corner.  Holland then delivered the big two run single up the middle to give the Vaqueros a 3-1 lead.

Those runs proved to be all that starter Brock Dykxhoorn would need.  Dykxhoorn pitched 7.1 innings, striking out eight, yielding only one run.

"Brock had one of his best outings of the year", said Head Coach Jon Wente.  "He seemed to get stronger as the game went along."

The Vaqueros added another three spot in the seventh to extend the lead to 6-1.

The CAC offense was paced again by David Petrino (3 hits, RBI) and Spencer Oneil (2 hits, double).

Joel Kuhnel finished the last 1.2 innings in relief for the Vaqueros.
