Vaqueros win 12th in a row; split at Gateway

Well, I wouldn't want to hit against that #32 Dakody Clemmer. That whipping 3/4 and dipping down delivery, that fastball just waiting to saw me off or zip back onto the outside corner. That's what he did to Gateway Community College Tuesday afternoon in the first game of the double header. throwing 6 innings of two-hit baseball and walking only one batter. Dailey Carnes threw a perfect 7th as Central Arizona College won their 12th game in a row with an 8-0 shutout. Clemmer's ERA is now down to 1.85, fifth in the conference.

#32 Freshman Dakody Clemmer

"I think he was just tired" said HC Anthony Gilich of first baseman Caleb Henderson pregame about sitting him in game two last Sunday against Monroe. As a result, Earl doubled, singled, and drove in two runs, scoring once, and Cooper Esmay went 2-4 with a two-bagger, scoring twice, to raise his average to .326. Only eight hits on the day for Central but they made 'em all count. Jaime Estrada scored twice without getting a hit, but swiped two bags and collected his team-high 20th walk. Aldo Koutsoyanopulos stole once and MJ doubled again driving in two and is hitting .417, good for fourth in the conference.

Game two was a different story.

"We couldn't get out of our own way for a couple of innings" said Gilich. "We didn't handle the ball very well and made some costly outs on the bases."

The final was 10-2 Gateway. "Connor Noble threw very well even though the boxscore doesn't show it" added Gilich. "We just couldn't get the bats going."

Noble's first five innings were scoreless until the Vaqueros ran into trouble in the sixth giving up six runs. Christian Botnick did pitch a very nice final 1.1 and has not given up an earned run all year. It's so nice to have a bullet guy with a 0.00 ERA. Jaime Estrada went 2-4 with trips and a double, scoring both runs, and is now hittng .349. Close behind in BA is SS Josh Ethier at .346. Number 1 has 23 RBI's on the year, very impressive for a lead-off man.

ACCAC BATTING STATISTICS

Hats off: The Vaqueros pitching and catching held the conference leaders in stolen bases to a mere one on the day, throwing out two of three.

The Vaqueros have won 12 of 13 and are now 20-9, 6-8. The Vaqueros are home for the next three, the Ontario Nationals visit the Big House on Friday and it's DH day on Saturday when the Mesa Thunderbirds visit.
