Vaqueros sweep Pima-22 more hits.

After sweeping two from Pima Community College, the hour-long ride back from Tucson didn't seem that long. The Vaq's rapped 22 hits in the Tuesday DH and got good starting pitching as Central swept with scores of 9-7 and 8-3. With 17 more runs, Central is now third in runs scored in the ACCAC, and with two triples from MJ in game two, second in the conference in three-baggers with 18.

Game One

Cooper Esmay went 2-3, and scored three times, Jake Brown doubled twice knocking in two, and Chris Kobar knocked in three runs with a single, sacrifice fly and sacrifice bunt. Cody Erickson and Earl also doubled. Dakody Clemmer threw 6 innings giving up six runs (three earned) and struck out 8 for his fourth win. Pitcher Christian Botnick earned a save and finally gave up a run. His ERA climbed to .052.

Game Two

The Vaqueros hit for 7 runs after four innings to take a 7-2 lead and the final ended at 8-3 with Connor Noble winning his third game of the year, and another terrific three innings to close out the Aztecs from Sam Myers. Myers gave up only one hit and struck out four. You never really notice how a pitcher is doing until the game is over and you say to yourself.."wow".

MJ Hubbs went all Josh Ethier and tripled twice driving in four runs. He also singled and scored twice. Three hits on the day for Louisiana Tech-bound Colby Hamilton, including another double.

"Three hits will probably get Colby going" said head coach Anthony Gilich in an exclusive text message on the trip back to Coolidge. Jaime Estrada collected yet three more hits, centerfielder Tim Hergert with two more and the old fiver Aldo Koutsoyanopulos swiped two bags. Ok so they nabbed Aldi another time, but still.

"Jaime just continues to find ways to get on base" added Gilich. Estrada is now hitting .380 just behind MJ's .383, good for eighth and ninth in the ACCAC.

On the path as usual, lead-off Jaime Estrada

The Vaqueros catchers both had a day with four hits between them, but mostly impressive is this: Kobar and Hamilton lead the conference in runners thrown out with twelve between them, it isn't even close. Arizona Western and two other teams have thrown out five on the year.

Central Arizona College leads the ACCAC in fielding percentage. Well there you go.
