Ninth inning rally falls short vs South Mountain

Hit 'em where they ain't. The old great baseball saying. You can chalk up this 6-4 loss to South Mountain to the old great saying. Central hit 'em, but they hit 'em where they were.

Line drive after rocket grounder just seemed to go right where they were and the classic example is MJ Hubbs. Bases loaded, down 4-2 in the sixth, it's a line shot right at the second baseman for a double play. MJ hit another right at the shortstop two inings later. It's as simple as things didn't go Central's way.

The Vaqueros totaled twelve hits on the day to the Cougars' fourteen and fell short in the end 6-4. Central got itself into a deep hole in the second going down 4-0 after a couple of rockets, yet pecked away little by little, hitting balls hard inning after inning, and it made you feel like something big would happen. Matt Kimbel got a hold of one and sent it over and to the right of the Arizona state flag in deep center in the third and bounced another through the six hole to go 2-4. Cody Erickson started a potential rally or two with a couple of hits including a double knocking in two, and Tim Hergert collected two more hits on the day.

But now the elephant in the room.

With the loss, it puts the Vaqueros in a big hole, outside looking in. With four games remaining, the final Division I play-off spot is three games away with three teams at 19-13 in conference play and CAC at 16-16. It's a tough road (literally), but surely doable. Road trips to Eastern Arizona and Cochise College ensue. Cool heads prevail here. The Vaq's will be focused on game one of Tuesday's DH in Thatcher.

And look at this. Justin Seiwald threw well through this. Hat's off. It's South Mountain you feel sorry for, they get this every game.
