Central takes two from Eastern Utah

The Golden Eagles of Eastern Utah came down from Price for some season opening baseball in Arizona and they've gotten a rough welcome so far, going 1-7 versus the ACCAC baseball teams. Where is Price? In the middle of Utah, near nothing really. But it is a two and a half hour drive to Grand Junction, Colorado. The NJCAA National Championship is played in Grand Junction.

"The goal is a national championship, like always" said head coach Anthony Gilich.

 Enough talk about that.

Game 1

Central 11 Eastern Utah 0

The Vaqueros scored five in the third inning and six more in the fourth while George Castillo over-powered the Golden Eagles through the minimum five innings (7 inning first game DH) while striking out ten. Ten strikeouts is  many for a nine inning game, so "overpowered" is the word to apply. Eastern managed three hits.

All of the Central batting lineup collected hits excepting Pikai Winchester, but he more than made up for it in game 2. Makoa Rosario tripled driving in two and scoring, Brent Gibbs and Bradley Morgan each hit twice while Gibbs had three rbi's on the day. Caleb Henderson, Roger Varela, and Andrew Chartrand each scored twice.

Stat of the fame: The Vaqueros led the conference in BB before the day started, and they collected no walks.

Game 2

Central 11 Eastern Utah 1

Dakody Clemmer with seven "thank you please sit down sirs" giving him 17 on the year in two starts and just one hit given up in 5 2/3 innings for hist first official win of the year.

"Dakody had a great fall and he is doing just as well this spring"

Edgar Barclay finished off the Eagles with 1 1/3 fanning three.

Caleb Henderson homered to right and homered doesn't do the hit justice. That ball was a sniper that landed deeeep in the desert. Pikai Winchester doubled twice, these were rips, and The Vaqueros doubled six more times for a shortened 11-1 win in seven innings in game two.  It's tough to pick out a particular standout when everyone is doing their job, a coaches dream.

"We did what we had to do against these guys" added Gillich.

"No matter who we put in, they seem to play well". The Vaqueros at this early point are playing each game one a time with different positional and batting lineups, with no set card. The beauty of this, everyone is getting innings.

Moving on.
