This Arizona Western team was different than the others Central Arizona has played this year.
They were bigger, faster, better. But they still left losing twice.
Game 1 (seven innings)
There aren't many better words a person can use than "gem" and that's the word hitting coach Jerry Hardin used after George Castillo's performance in game one. Castillo threw the entire seven innings to the point where nobody even thought of pulling him, walked one batter and "please-sit down-sir'd" seven while tossing one beauty of an 8-0 win. Castillo now is 3-0 with an ERA of 0.41 and leads the ACCAC in strikeouts with 32. Pikai Winchester doubled again for his team leading eighth and drove in four of the eight runs. Brent Gibbs doubled and drove in two more, and Makoa Rosario walked three times in the lead-off spot and scored twice. Western was completely shut down, and Central won it's 14th in a row.

Game 2 (nine innings)
Stat for game 2: Caleb Henderson 2-4 with three runs scored...BUT...a glorious high bomb to left that you don't even need to watch because the second it was hit, everyone knew.
Follow along. After six innings Central starter Dakody Clemmer was out and Western had picked away for a 6-2 lead. Meeting in the dugout:
"Lots of time left, we chip away and walk off with this in the 9th" said Head Coach Anthony Gilich.
The Vaqueros scored three times in the eighth inning, a nice chip, to narrow the score to 6-5 and in the ninth, the Matadors added one run to make it 7-5. Let's go to the bottom of the 9th.
With one run in and two outs and Winchester down to his last strike, he singled up the middle. Brent Gibbs singled with a bouncing ball over the second baseman's head to put runners on first and third when Chris Kobar rapped a huge double to score Winchester. This tied the game at 7.
"I had to hold Gibbs at third" said Gilich. "They executed an outstanding relay."
With Gibbs at third and Kobar on second, Justice Nakagawa hit a midlin grounder to third which the Western third baseman threw away. Gibbs scored and as the head coach said, Central walked off with the win in the ninth.
