Vaqueros put up 32 runs in DH; sweep Eastern

A three hour return trip from Thatcher with accidents and detours could have seemed like a cross country trip, but it's somehow ok after you've just swept a DH and scored 32 runs.

Central Arizona College toted the lumber and made it a long day for the Gilas by winning both games Saturday afternoon.

Game 1 (seven innings) 10-5

Let's just start with Mitchell Robinson. Robinson went 4-4 with five RBI including a three-run homerun and three singles as Central tripped up Eastern Arizona 10-5. Caleb Henderson hit his team leading fifth triple, and Jaime Estrada and SS Roger Varela added doubles. Estrada leads the team in doubles with ten. Yes but think of this:

Five triples. What's more exciting in baseball than a triple. Not even a triple play.

Starter George Castillo threw a decent four innings, probably not his best stuff, but gave up only two earned runs and moved to 4-1 on the year.

If you asked him how he threw against Eastern, he'd probably say "eh". Trust the Ol' Blade on that. Daily Carnes threw two of naught, and Jared Montoya wrapped up the win with a nice seventh.

Game 2 (seven inning run rule) 22-5

Let's just start with Mitchell Robinson again. Then we'll get to DLT. Robinson went 3-3 with four more RBI and a bomb, added a double and scored three times in game two.

7-7 with 9 RBI for a Saturday.

Ernie de la Trinidad seems fully back from an early season plunking and went 3-4 with seven ribs and a triple. And a long homerun. Seven rbi's. That's a lot of production.

Stat of the game: 0-0 for shortstop Roger Varela with three walks. How do you walk three times when your team is ripping baseballs all around you? Discipline.

Jaime, Caleb, Robinson, and Bradley Morgan all scored three times, Jayden Eggiman, Brent Bailey, and DLT all scored twice. Chris Kobar, Justice Nakagawa, and Brendan Turcotte all added doubles. The Vaq's hit four homers in game two, Caleb hit another and Brent Bailey ripped one, his first.

Dakody Clemmer won his third game while throwing a serviceable four and still came back in the bottom when the Vaqueros scored 11 times in the top of the fourth. That half inning lasted at least 45 minutes.

Look, there's more but I have to get to church. I could sit here all day plinking stats and numbers for this day.
