DLT rips a grand slam in win
DLT rips a grand slam in win

Central Sweeps Paradise Valley; DLT with a grand slam; Castillo throws another complete game zero.

The Central Arizona College Vaqueros scored ten more runs and they did it twice in a DH sweep of Paradise Valley Community College on Tuesday afternoon.

Game 1 10-0 (run rule six innings)

Before you could even hurl your chaw (where is Aldo when you want him), the Vaqueros led 6-0 and it's just too much of a lead to come back from when there's a pitcher named George Castillo staring you down. As a hitter, it's too much of a hassle to try and compete when you're behind by six and the guy is throwing peas that break last second in the dirt for your third strike. George Castillo did his thing striking out five, walking only one, and giving up four inconsequential hits for another complete game shutout. Castillo won his sixth game of the young season, tieing him with teammates Dakody Clemmer and Ben Skuro for the ACCAC lead.

Pikai Winchester drove in three runs with a double and two singles, SS Roger Varela went 3-3 driving in two, and Caleb Henderson (3-3) and Ernie de la Trinidad each doubled in a run as Central rapped 13 more hits in the six inning run-rule game.

This is Castillo's fifth shutout of the year. At one point early on, he had thrown three in a row.

Game 2 (10-7 9 innings)

Central staked Vaqueros starter Peyton Remy with 8 runs after three innings and he threw pretty durned well this day striking out four and giving up two earned runs in his five innings. Remy now has five wins on the year, second on the team.

Big day for the clean-up and fifth hitters in game two. Mitchell Robinson swatted a double and two other singles scoring three times, and fifth hitter Ernie de la Trinidad went 2-3, scored three times, and drove in four runs. The four rbi's came on one swing, a bomb into the desert for a grand slam, his second HR of the year.

(I wouldn't know what that feels like, you know, hitting a grand slam. Coach wouldn't either)

"We did very well in all phases of the games today" said Head Coach Anthony Gilich.

Games. With an "s". That's an impressive comment when you get that for two games, not just one.

Roger Varela went 2-3 to cap off a 5-6 DH. His batting average is now up to .414. The entire Central starting lineup collected hits in the win.

The Vaqueros sit atop the ACCAC standings with a 33-5 and 15-3. They currently hold a 1.5 game lead on Yavapai Community College who swept Chandler-Gilbert yesterday.

Up next: two at Phoenix College this Saturday.
