Big Tuesday for Central in sweep of Eastern Arizona; Estrada hits Grand Slam

The good ol' days are back.

Central Arizona College scored 22 runs in a sweep of Eastern Arizona Tuesday afternoon and with some losses and another DH split, the Vaqueros all of a sudden have a 2 game lead in the ACCAC and seemingly have command of the conference with two regular season games left.

South Mountain split their DH with Cochise and Yavapai surprisingly dropped two to Arizona Western.

Game 1  4-2 (seven innings)

Classic Castillo who threw six innings striking out six and giving up one earned run. It's been talked about how important it is to win low scoring close games as opposed to outscoring teams and winning in slugfests. This was that.

Central only had eight hits and it's great when that's enough. Brent Gibbs poked one out, Mitchell Robinson drove in two more with a single and SAC fly, and leadoff Andrew Chartand walked twice and scored.

Dakody Clemmer pitched a perfect seventh to gain his first save of the year.

Game 2  (18-3 seven innings)

A player Central will need in the post season did what he will need to do Tuesday afternoon. Peyton Remy threw six out of seven innings in the run rule game, struck out 11 and walked two. Incredible game for Peyton and a coaches dream this late in the season. It was a sight to be seen. Sit down-sit down-sit down. Thank you.

The DH sweep was over after one inning. Central put up a twelve in the first, and after three innings it was 17-1.

"The pitching was outstanding today. Remy controlled the tempo and attacked hitters all day" said head coach Anthony Gilich.

Central collected 16 hits and and also patiently took what they were given in accepting 11 walks. With Chris Kobar impatiently waiting for his index to heal, Makoa Rosario caught game two and walked three times. Andrew Chartrand, Caleb Henderson, Ernie de la Trinidad, Shane Potter, and Jayden Eggimann all doubled, and the two-hitter Jaime Estrada yanked one into the cotton fields with bases loaded. Eggiman scored three times and six other Vaqueros scored twice.

The regular season ends this weekend with Central hosting Cochise. One win and the regular season conference championship is theirs, and a first round host in the Region I play-offs starting May 5.
