It was a very nice little baseball win at The Big House 2019 home opener for Central Arizona on Friday, but not so nice the rest of the week-end as Central traveled to Glendale to ruin their weekend.

Lucas Knowles won his second game of the year by throwing almost six innings without giving up a run and the pea-throwing Central bullpen closed out the Gauchos on Friday afternoon at home for a 5-0 win. Zane Strand and Jye Deeble threw the rest of the game keeping Glendale scoreless.

"Eh, he didn't have his best stuff, but that's what makes him so good' said head coach Anthony Gilich about Knowles.

"He is so competitive, he draws on that, grinds it out and he will beat you. He wants to win at everything."

Six hits was all it took in this game, including another Clayton Keyes double. Zach Hogueisson and Jacob McKeon drove in a couple of runs apiece.

Central then hit Glendale's home field for two Saturday and scored 27 runs in both. 

In the Saturday first game, the first four batters accounted for eight hits, including  doubles from Hunter Jump and Keyes again, and an Ernny Ordonez triple. Ian Raidy hit his first homerun of the season for the Vaqueros in the 13-3 final. The winner was Jonathan Stroman who struck out five and was responsible for two of the three runs, and again, the bullpen of Mitchell DeCovich, DJ Carpenter, and Brandon Jenkins offered nothing.

The Saturday nightcap was another Saturday nightmare for Glendale, it was more of the same.

Central pounded out eight extra base hits, including seven doubles and a triple. Hogueisson and Ernny Ordonez hit sacrifice flies and the Vaquero batters did pretty much all you can do in the 14-2 win. Ordonez drove in four runs and hit the triple, his second of the day. McKeon drove in three runs and Luke Schwartz also singled four times. Clayton Keyes did not double or triple, as he sat this one out. 

Leo Palacios started the third weekend game with Glendale and gave up the two runs, then the bullpen came in and did what they do by closing out the game after Palacios' 3.2 innings.

Tyler Woessner struck out every batter he faced.

PLEASE SIT DOWN SIR!

Woessner recorded all six strikeouts in his two innings. More scoreless innings from Jason Nelson and Dakota Donovan and the Gauchos had no chance.

Central plays at home today against Gateway Community College and Paradise Valley visits The Big House this coming weekend.
