Vaqueros record dominating sweep in Thursday DH

Two doubles and a triple in game one for on-fire Zach Hogueisson

"Best we've played all year. Pitching, hitting and defense all went well today" said the head coach Anthony Gilich after a dominating DH sweep against the Plainsmen from Northeastern Community College in northern Colorado.

You can start with former ASU player Zach Hogueisson who a good day at the plate going 4-6 with a homerun, double, and four rbi's. The rest of the Vaqueros batting lineup all did what they had to do in getting timely hits, advancing runners and scoring when the opportunities arose, and the pitching staff did what it has done all year, and that's give Central a good chance to win each ball game.

Matt Aribal started at 2B this time and collected three hits including a double, Josh Dudden doubled twice in game two, and Ernny Ordonez, Jake Meyer, and Daniel Cervantes all added doubles on the day.

The Vaqueros did not record any fielding bloops in either game.

The game one starter Avery Jones (5-1) threw 5.1 with seven strikeouts giving up four meaningless hits, and Tyler Woessner finished up with a scoreless 1.2 with a 6-1 final.

We all like the new double header rule: First game is seven and the second is a niner.

Game two starter Mitchell DeCovich (1-0) spotted an early homerun and gave up nothing else in his first start of the year. He struck out three and walked one. Reliever DJ Carpenter then struck out six of the nine outs in the scoreless three final innings. The final was an 11-1 run-rule win when Central scored three times in the bottom of the eighth. You could call that a walk-off, of sorts.

The Vaqueros sit at 9-5 (4th place currently) in the ACCAC and 20-9 overall.

Next up: Two games on Saturday against visiting Dawson Community College from Montana and Bismarck St. from North Dakota. Next week it's a home-away with first place South Mountain Community College.
