Central crushes Cochise-on to Region I finals

Douglas AZ - With a pitcher throwing lights out and a 9-0 lead after four innings, the Central Arizona College Vaqueros could have relaxed a little possibly, for the first time in a long time.

Maybe the first time in months.

Central added four more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 13-0 lead and the game was over after a seven-inning run rule. The final was 13-2.

Well, as of press time, the relaxing is probably over. Work to do.

Dakota Donovan threw six more-than-solid innings of two-hit baseball, striking out five Apaches and delivering a game as Central moves on to face Yavapai Community College for the Region I championship in another best-of-three starting Thursday. The two have split the six games they've played this year.

Donovan now has an ERA of .042 in his last four starts.

Zach Hogueisson doubled again and homered again. Ernny Ordonez tripled and singled driving in three, Ian Raidy (.400 in his last eight games) drove in two, scored twice and then swiped two bags. Catcher Jake Meyer and  second baseman Matt Aribal doubled, and Brennan Reback added trips.

Meyer is hitting .470 in his last four games.

Clayton Keyes scored three times, Hunter Jump drove in two and stole a base.

Wow.

"The offense was great. To hit their pitching the way we did the last two games was fun to see" said head coach Anthony Gilich.

"They have been working hard all year. Cochise is a very good team so I am proud of the guys to go in there and win two on the road."

Central has won nine straight.

And has become the team to beat.
